Updraft – Backup/Restore is a plugin designed to back up your WordPress blog. Uploads, themes, plugins, and even your DB can be backed up to Rackspace Cloud Files, Amazon S3, sent to an FTP server, or even emailed to you on a scheduled basis. Installation
- Upload updraft/ into wp-content/plugins/
- Activate the plugin via the ‘Plugins’ menu.
- Go to the ‘Updraft’ option under settings.
- Follow the instructions.
I found a bug. What do I do?
Contact me! This is a complex plugin and the only way I can ensure it’s robust is to get bug reports and fix the problems that crop up. Please include as much information as you can when reporting (PHP version, your blog’s site, the error you saw and how you got to the page that caused it, et cetera).

I recently had an internal server error, and was temporarily locked out of the admin panel on my website. I was very worried about it, and am worried it could happen again. It seems to be resolved for now at least, with a WordPress update. This morning, even though it is a weekend, I sent a support ticket to Updraft requesting help to safe guard my site. The reply was prompt and helpful. I did a back up, and a clone of my site. Initially I thought the clone was going to be complicated, but it was very straight-forward. There is peace of mind knowing the site is backed up, because I have put thousands of hours, and a huge investment into my website. I have upgraded to the Premium version in recent months, and the extra peace of mind is well worth it. Valerie Hayes quietwest.com

I could write a cron job to do this but the current website owner wants to use this plugin - it is terrible, what should take minutes takes hours. And he canceled it in the midst of a restore, that is dangerous and wrong!

My WP is hosted on a Windows server, so it took a little configuration to get this plugin to fully work. But now, it's effortless, and hopefully, I'll never need to test quite how good those backups are!

I use this plugin a lot and purchased the full version with all add-ons, which was necessary for me, as I tend to move sites around from host to host.
However, it's not the easiest plugin to use and the interface can be a bit of a struggle at times, certainly if you're not used to it.
Infuriatingly though, it's the developer's own web site and support that lets it down.
Updraft Plus is not cheap, yet after purchase, you have so many support credits, after which time you have to pay - but try navigating the developer's site to get that support.
Just when you've found it, you discover that you need the original purchase information, so have to go off looking for that too.
For this reason, if I were looking for a backup plugin right now, I would probably look elsewhere.
It's still a good plugin though and does what it claims, pity that the most useful things have to come at a premium though.
