Amelia – Events & Appointments Booking Calendar

Description

Amelia Lite is a free appointment booking WordPress plugin that allows to set up a fully-featured automated booking system on your WordPress website and is a handy tool for small businesses and individuals that depend on stable appointment booking processes.

Amelia Lite was built with newest Enterprise-level of technology both on front-end and back-end, ensuring smooth and slick user experience. Amelia elements are applying single-page-app approach, work without page reloading, and all elements were designed with the mobile first concept in mind – so all the admin and customer interfaces are perfectly responsive.

Amelia Lite supports:

  • Creating Step-by-step booking view by adding [ameliabooking] shortcode
  • Configuring the general settings for the company – General Settings
  • A convenient Calendar view on the back-end, giving a full overview on all the appointments and the statuses – Calendar Admin View
  • Flexible Appointment Management page, with an option to add appointments by your staff from the WordPress admin dashboard – Appointments Admin Page
  • Configuring provider’s details and working schedule – General Settings
  • Key numbers in the Dashboard – Dashboard page
  • Email notifications to the customer and provider when the appointment status changes.

Configuring Amelia Lite to book your first appointment through WordPress is literally a 5-minute job.

  • First, you would need to go to your WordPress’ admin page, open Amelia -> Services and add categories and services, as described here.
  • On the next step, you would need to add a step-by-step booking wizard to one of your posts or pages. To do that, just create a new post or page, or edit an exiting one, and add [ameliabooking] shortcode where you want to add the booking wizard. Save it – and that’s it – now customers can book appointments from your site’s front-end using Amelia Lite!
  • You can customize provider details and schedule in the General Settings page.

Not so bad at the first glance, slow due to heavy use of javascript, but the most anoying thing is it leaves more the 50 databasetables in WordPress after deinstallation. This is far beyond professional development.

The plug-in requires a bit of consideration and set-up. That said, the documentation is solid, the plug-in is stable and does what it says it does, and the support is thorough and prompt, professional.

Very straightforward to implement and when we did have a couple of queries the support we received was timely and extremely helpful. The plugin integrates seamlessly with the site and we found it excellent value for money.

Plugin has lots of great functionality if you are looking for an out-of-the-box solution. It looks nice and functions well. If you are looking to customise, extend or restyle in any way though, then you are going to have a very tough time.

The initial implementation of the Amelia plugin was very smooth. I have had to minor issues but the support has been awesome. They have worked deligently to resolve my implementation issues and I recommend this plugin.

If you're looking for a plug-n-play booking tool, this does the job as well as -- or better than -- many others out there. However, if you have a user workflow that's just a little more than basic, you may have problems making this work for you. It's not only a little odd the way it's organized, but it's also rather inflexible. For example, you'd think allowing a user to access their appointments would be an obvious feature. Well, it is a feature, but it's ill-conceived. Here's why... Your site may allow bookings for non-logged-in, anonymous users. That's fine... in that case, Amelia will essentially create an "Amelia Customer" user when a booking is made. To access his/her upcoming appointments, that user will need to create a username and password *with Amelia* to access the "customer panel". Or, if you specify, you can make the access to the "customer panel" not require a password... in this case, the customer will need to use a tokenized link sent via email to access their appointments. Not a really big deal, and it's obviously necessary since if the user wasn't already known at the time of the booking, and assuming there isn't any sort of user login mechanism on your site... without Amelia doing the work of identifying the user (so they can access their appointments and not somebody else's appointments), there isn't any other way. But what if I don't WANT my KNOWN (logged-in) users to have to create a separate Amelia login? Then the user will need to use the link in the email. But what if I don't want to send an email... what if I just want my ALREADY LOGGED-IN USER to be able to simple view their appointments? There is no way. So in making the plugin work for both authenticated and unauthenticated users, the plugin has created unnecessary roadblocks for sites that ONLY function (for bookings at least) for authenticated users. It's really poorly thought out... and unfortunately, by the time I finally got around to working through this with the site I'm building, I'm past my refund period so I'm out $$ AND I don't have a solution working for my client that I'm happy with.
